Monthly update - June 2025
Happy (belated) midsummer everyone!
Big congratulations to my friend and colleague Jakob German for his latest publication “Incorporating genetic data improves target trial emulations and informs the use of polygenic scores in randomized controlled trial design” in Nature Genetics!
Top Pick of the Month
A lot of research is currently focused on AI agents in medicine and their potential ability to streamline common clinical tasks. In this publications researchers manage to develop a model able to replicate the task of decision‑making for cancer patients using the standard data available to the clinician during consultations. Clear implementation on real world data and task, amazing work!
Other Notable Mentions
Here are some of the other most interesting peer-reviewed publications that came out during the past month:
Complete AI-Enabled Echocardiography Interpretation With Multitask Deep Learning
AI-based large-scale screening of gastric cancer from noncontrast CT imaging
A multimodal vision foundation model for clinical dermatology
A multimodal visual–language foundation model for computational ophthalmology
All the resources I have scanned for this post are now available in the June 2025 Appendix. Other than research papers, many amazing blog posts have been published in June, check them out!
Final Notes
This month I scanned a total of 23 publications spanning 9 different countries.
My top picks are based on my topics of interest—definitely a bit biased! If you came across any cool papers published in June 2025 (related to health data science topics) that you think deserved more recognition, please send them my way and I’ll try to include them in next month’s update!
